The Testaments is already winning fans over after just three episodes of the dystopian tale – and now creator has teased that there’s plenty more story to come.
The Handmaid’s Tale spin-off only launched on Disney+ and Hulu on April 8, and just four episodes in, Gilead has never looked more sinister as we see the world through the eyes of Agnes (Chase Infiniti) and Daisy (Lucy Halliday).
Set in a preparatory school for future wives led by Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd), The Testaments follows the girls as they come to grips with the world they’ve been born into, as they begin to rebel against it.
The series has been given an 89 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes by critics, and is holding its place as the No 1 show for Disney+ in the UK.
But how long does the team plan to continue the story? According to creator Bruce Miller, a plan is already in place.
Speaking to Hollywood Reporter, Miller said he had a “sense of where he wants it to end”, though the journey there is still being navigated.
He said: “I think just out of trying to end it in a satisfying way in the business environment that we exist in, I think of about 30 to 50 episodes. So three to five seasons.”
Miller added he could “write Agnes scenes for the rest of his life” if he could.
The Testaments season 1 is currently airing new episodes weekly, running through to May 27.
Based on the book by Margaret Atwood, who also originally wrote The Handmaid's Tale, the show has already made several changes from the Margaret Atwood novel its based on.
Miller admits he wanted to make as few changes as possible to stay faithful to Atwood's work, but ultimately decided on key changes in order to make the on-screen narrative work.
This included changing a 15-year time jump after the events of The Handmaid's Tale to just four years, and bringing Daisy and Agnes's ages closer together so they could attend school at the same time.
The Testaments is available to watch now on Disney+.
