Disney Reveals Amenity Plans for Asteria Community in Chatham County; Home Sales on Track for 2027

More than two years after announcing plans for a massive development east of Pittsboro and nearly ten months after breaking ground, Disney is sharing more details on what future residents can expect from its Asteria neighborhood.

Blog updates and social media renderings shared on Tuesday by the entertainment company’s master-planning Storyliving by Disney branch revealed new amenities for those living in Asteria who join its Second Star Club — a social campus to compliment the initial phases of homes in the 4,000-residence community.

Described as a collection of features inspired by the 1953 animated film “Peter Pan,” the Second Star Club will be a central spot for activity for neighborhood members. An anchor feature is Aster Green, which is a lawn Asteria says will be for casual sports, family picnics, and outdoor programming. Around the green will be buildings like Marquet Hall, a two-story restaurant the developers describe as an indoor-outdoor business, an event pavilion called Piedmont Proper, and creative studios — where club members can use technology like laser engravers and fabric printers for crafting.

The exclusive club will also offer several outdoor and exercise amenities, according to Tuesday’s release. Its wellness center will offer traditional clubhouse amenities, like yoga space, gyms with state-of-the-art workout equipment, juice bar and more. Kid-friendly and adult-only pools will also be nearby, as will tennis and pickleball courts and a playground.

Also among the Peter Pan-themed amenities announced on Tuesday: a reserve-able, five-bedroom home called the Lost Key Cottage. Disney described the building as a place for members to rent for gatherings or overnight stays with “whimsical details” that reference and evoke Never Land.

Asteria also teased what kind of programming the Second Star Club will bring to its members, saying “a robust schedule of events, activities and programs” will include family-friendly craft classes, Disney movie nights, guided nature hikes, and themed excursions around the region. The details point to how Disney plans to allude to its classic films throughout the development — going as far as saying to expect “ever present” references to properties like “Beauty and the Beast,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “Bambi” — without making the neighborhood into a theme park.

The Asteria project, which was announced in Dec. 2023, is the second Storyliving by Disney venture as the theme park giant continues to add real estate development to its company portfolio. The development on roughly 1,500 acres east of downtown Pittsboro fits within the broader master-planned Chatham Park community getting built out by the Preston Development Company, which projects to raise Pittsboro’s population from 5,000 to 75,000 residents by completion. After earning approval from the Pittsboro Board of Commissioners for its first phase of homes last May, contractors broke ground and began clearing land off of Grant Drive in Pittsboro in June 2025. The construction is being handled by DMB Development, which is based in Scottsdale, Az.

Disney’s first neighborhood, Cotino in California’s Rancho Mirage, has a two-year head-start over Asteria and is actively showing model homes. Home prices in that initial development are currently in the $1 million to $2 million range. Asteria’s will likely cost less, considering the neighborhood will have a mix of single-family homes, condos, apartments and units reserved for adults 55+, but no pricing has been publicly shared by Storyliving by Disney or its realtor partners. The Asteria website says it plans to begin home sales in the fall of 2027.

In a comment to the Triangle Business Journal about April’s updates, Preston Development Company Founders Bubba Rawl and Tim Smith estimated that Disney has spent $30 million on the Pittsboro project so far and its spending could exceed $100 million in total for the construction of the other amenities and necessary infrastructure for Asteria.
