Day 86 of the Chicago Bears offseason. Happy Tax Day!
Keep an eye on the Detroit Lions as a trade-up candidate in the 2026 NFL Draft. Lions General Manager Brad Holmes sounds like he will be open for business when the event opens eight days from today. “Absolutely,” Holmes said (h/t Pro Football Talk) when discussing the possibility of trading up during next week’s NFL Draft. “Yeah, if it’s the right guy. You guys know me. I feel like you guys get mad at me sometimes, I do it too much sometimes. But, no, if we have that kind of conviction for a player, absolutely. We’re going to go and get him.”THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini resigned from her post as the publication’s top NFL insider. This announcement comes one week after pictures of Russini and New England Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel together at an Arizona resort emerged and raised a slew of questions about moral and ethical standards. It has been quite the side plot to follow. You can read Russini’s resignation letter below:I submitted my letter of resignation to The Athletic. Everything I have to say about it is below. pic.twitter.com/401nrtbEsj
— Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) April 14, 2026 For now, Vrabel emerges from this unscathed. However, I wonder how much longer that will be the case. I wonder if the Pats head coach gets a slap on the wrist from the NFL at some point, with the league referring to the situaiton as participating in “conduct detrimental to the league.” Will the Philadelphia Eagles raise concerns about Russini’s reporting in connection to wide receiver A.J. Brown and rumors linking him as a potential Patriots target. Is there a potential tampering charge to be made? In the end, I don’t think this is the last we’ve heard of this story (for better or worse). This piece by Awful Announcing’s Sam Neumann raises what I believe to be fair questions and concerns regarding the NFL Draft news consumption bubble that we live in as fans and writers in light of the Rueben Bain Jr. car crash news. At a minimum, it should make us all pause, take a step back, reflect on, and examine the ecosystem in which we exist.MORE BEARS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
