Matthew Rhys is swapping spy drama for small town thrills in his surreal new Apple TV series Widow's Bay.
The Americans actor plays Tom Loftis, the mayor of a small town, who is faced with residents convinced that their town is haunted. But as the evidence stacks up, can he continue to deny what he views as nothing but superstition?
A new teaser for the show, which has been exclusively shared with Radio Times, introduces us to Rhys's mayor, Tom Loftis, who accidentally puts his foot in his mouth when colleague Patricia (Kate O'Flynn) tells him a story about a spirit supposedly haunting the town, the boogeyman.
"Have I told you about the boogeyman?" she asks him, her voice beginning to shake. "I was home alone and it started with the calls. Weird breathing, hang-ups, and then I heard someone downstairs and I hid under the bed."

Causing Patricia to storm out, he unhelpfully adds: "He murdered teenage girls. You're in your forties. You'll be fine."
The new series will see Rhys's Mayor Loftis attempt to transform the town of Widow's Bay into a tourist haven – despite the constant warnings from the population that the place is haunted. So, what is he to do if they're proven right?
Rhys is best known for his role as Philip Jennings in The Americans, Kevin Walker in Brothers & Sisters, and leading HBO's Perry Mason. He and Flynn will star in Widow's Bay alongside Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi, Kevin Carroll and Dale Dickey.
