ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Yellow Alert is posted Tuesday for at least one round of thunderstorms. A cluster of strong to severe storms over the Midwest crosses the Great Lakes Monday night. Our area will get the leftovers by first thing Tuesday morning. These storms will likely weaken a bit by the time they get here, so our severe threat is fairly low, but we may still get some gusty winds with a morning round of storms. Some heavier rain may also accompany the storms.
Once these clear, there is a lower chance of another round of isolated afternoon storms. Still, if any storms do fire later in the day, once again there is the small chance of a stronger storm. So, the morning will be the wettest part of the day, with rain likely during the morning commute. There’s the chance we could see a similar setup early Wednesday morning, so we’ll be monitoring that threat.
Outside of any storm, we’ll see some limited sun, a busy wind and warm and muggy air. In fact, this will be the theme for much of the rest of this week – frequent rounds of rain and some storms, and warmer than average temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
Another weather impact we need to monitor this week will be the potential for flooding, due to the repetitive nature of the rain and storms this week. The warmer pattern sticks around into the first part of the weekend, but a pattern flip flop will likely bring falling temperatures and cooler than average weather into at least the first half of next week.
