BRIGHTON, N.Y. — The principal of McQuaid Jesuit High School switched up his morning commute Monday.

Principal John Serafine rode a scooter all the way from his home in Pittsford to the school in Brighton. In the winter, Serafine promised his students that if they could collect 12,000 pounds of food to be donated to Foodlink, he’d scoot to school.

His students went above and beyond and collected more than 13,000 pounds.

“I’m just really proud of them they come together a ton. the school is based on its mission of being meant for others and the food drive is just one small example of the stuff that our kids do everyday,” Serafine said.

The food drive is an annual effort at McQuaid. Back in 2024, Serafine promised students he’d work on the school’s roof if they met their goal. Although the temperatures were in the teens that day, he kept his promise.
