A suspect was taken into custody after authorities said he damaged more than a dozen personal vehicles of Chicago Fire Department members with an axe.
Jacob Bogdan, 26, was charged with 19 felony counts of criminal damage to property and two felony counts of criminal damage to government property, Chicago police said. Bogdan was identified as the suspect who damaged vehicles and government property in four separate incidents dating back to February in Chinatown, Englewood and Bronzeville.
In the most recent incident, the 26-year-old allegedly struck seven vehicles with an axe outside the Chicago Fire Department’s Engine Company 84 along 59th Street in Englewood on Friday morning.
Patrick Quane, a spokesman for the Chicago Firefighters Union, said firefighters heard commotion and went to investigate. Once outside, they saw a man swinging an axe at their vehicles before fleeing westbound.
Bodgan was arrested on Saturday in the 200 block of West Cermark, which is the same area where one of the alleged crimes occurred earlier this year.
As of Sunday night, a motive remained unclear.
