ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Chamber Music Rochester presented the Gloriously Degenerate Wind Music concert in Beston Hall at the Glazer Music Performance Center on Sunday.
The artistic director for Chamber Music Rochester explained where the title of the show came from.
“The gloriously degenerate wind music came from the idea that many of today’s composers that we’re featuring were deemed degenerate by the Nazi party, and such important music needs to be celebrated. These were wonderful Jewish composers who were celebrated in their day and then essentially cancelled by the Nazi regime,” said Juliana Athayde, artistic director of Chamber Music Rochester.
Athayde said it’s important to bring voices forward that were silenced and play music that the audience may not have had the opportunity to enjoy.
