The Tuscaloosa Police Department shut down the Strip around 6 p.m. on Saturday after Alabama football’s A-Day spring scrimmage.
According to a post on TPD’s Facebook, the Strip was shut down due to overcrowding in order to “maintain public order and safety.”
This marks the third time in four years the Strip was shut down on A-Day. It was shut down on A-Day in 2025 at around 9 p.m. after a false claim of gunfire in the area, and in 2023 under similar social media claims.
TPD currently has patrol units blocking vehicle traffic at the intersections of University Boulevard and Reed Street, and University Boulevard and Frank Thomas/Campus Drive West.
Kip Tyner, president of the Tuscaloosa City Council, blamed the shutdown on those who came from out of town, specifically those from Lipscomb, Bessemer, Ensley and Hale County, in a Facebook post.
People are permitted to go into any businesses that remain open Saturday evening, according to TPD.
