Sophie Burrows, who spent her first three college seasons at Syracuse, committed to UNC out of the transfer portal Saturday.
Originally from Australia, Burrows is an ACC veteran, having started 65 games across three seasons for the Orange. After earning four starts as a true freshman in the 2023-24 season, Burrows assumed everyday starter status as a sophomore. She averaged more than 30 minutes per game and had the most productive season of her career: 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game, all while shooting 39.6 percent on three-pointers.
Burrows’ scoring and shooting weren’t quite as prolific as a junior, though Syracuse’s team success was much greater: after a 12-18 season in 2024-25, the Orange finished 24-9 in 2025-26 and returned to the NCAA Tournament. Burrows started 31 of Syracuse’s 33 games and once again averaged 30 minutes per game. Her scoring dipped slightly to 11.0 points per game, while her three-point shooting dropped significantly to 30.1 percent. At the same time, Burrows also dramatically increased her free-throw percentage from 66.7 as a sophomore to 82.2 as a junior.
Burrows has represented her native Australia on the international stage, playing in the U18 Women’s Asian Championship in 2022 and in the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in 2023. Prior to arriving at Syracuse, she played semi-professionally in the Australian NBL1.
Burrows is the second player to commit to UNC out of the transfer portal during the 2026 cycle. Former Oklahoma State standout Achol Akot committed to the Tar Heels Friday.
