GREECE, N.Y. — On Thursday around 7:45 p.m., Greece police said they responded to West Ridge Road after getting alerted to a stolen vehicle. The incident was described “as an unconventional ride-share business model,” by police.
Officers found the vehicle and arrested 29-year-old Malik Scales of Rochester, two other passengers were briefly detained, according to police.
Investigators said the passengers were asked by Scales if they wanted a ride back to Rochester, after they dined at a restaurant.
He told officers that he provided rides to passengers after buying the vehicle for $300 on Lyell Avenue, police say.
The passengers were released at the scene due to investigators determining them to have no involvement.
Scales was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree. He was released on an appearance ticket.
