April 9-11, 2026 Edmonton, Alberta Edmonton Kinsmen Sports Centre LCM (50 meters) Meet Central All the Links Psych Sheets Live Results Preview Recaps: Prelims: Day 1 Finals: Day 1Day two of the 2026 Speedo Canadian Open kicked off this morning with 20 events in the preliminary session.
This morning’s session saw three new meet records set in prelims with tonight’s finals session still to come.
The first record of the morning came in the men’s 200 breaststroke where 18-year-old Oliver Dawson swam 2:12.82 to earn the top seed by more than six seconds over the rest of the field. He takes down American Jordan Willis‘ 2024 record of 2:13.26.
Dawson was about two seconds off his lifetime best of 2:10.32, which he swam at the World Championships in Singapore last summer, but his prelims time was two seconds faster than the 2:14.87 he swam in finals last year.
Just a few events later, both 50 fly meet records went down, starting with the women’s race, where Taylor Ruck swam 26.29 in her 2nd event of the morning to take more than half-a-second off the 26.87 meet record time set by Matea Gigovic at last year’s meet. Gigovic qualified 3rd in the event, swimming 27.32. Ella Jansen, placed in between them, swimming 27.28 to qualify 2nd. Ruck swam 25.71 in the event at the World Championships in August.
Ruck also won the 100 freestyle prelims earlier in the day, swimming 54.45 to earn the top seed by about a second over Jansen, who swam 55.58.
In the men’s 50 fly, Ole Eidam, who swims collegiately at Michigan and internationally for Germany, set the final meet record of the morning. He swam the top 50 fly time of 23.66, touching half-a-second ahead of the rest of the field as the only swimmer under 24 seconds. He took down Eric Ginzburg‘s 2025 meet record time of 24.03.
Finlay Knox was 2nd in 24.17 and Ginzburg qualified 3rd in 24.19.
There were a few notable performances from the Para athletes as well. 19-year-old S10 athlete Mary Jibb swam the top time in two different events this morning, touching in 4:52.71 in the 400 freestyle to score 924 Para points.
In the 100 backstroke, she swam 1:13.90 to rack up 911 points and the top seed for tonight’s event final.
SB3 athlete Etienne Boutin-Cote, 21, was the only athlete in both of his events, but he swam the 150 IM and the 50 breast in the prelims. In the 150 IM, he touched in 3:44.73, which doesn’t have any points listed on the results sheet. In the 50 breast, he picked up 357 points to touch in 1:19.34.
