ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Here’s your guide to events happening this weekend in the Rochester area. You can learn more about what’s happening around town on our Community Calendar.
Rochester charter school hiring fair (Saturday)
A job fair for people interested in working at a Rochester charter school is taking place at MCC’s downtown campus on State Street on Saturday.
It runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with on-the-spot interviews and the potential to walk away with a job offer the same day. All 27 Rochester charter school locations will take part.
Schools are looking for certified and uncertified teachers, teaching assistants, paraprofessionals, support staff, and more. Organizers say it’s for both experienced professionals and people just starting their education career. Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is encouraged. You can register and upload your resume online here.
Black Maternal Health Walkathon (Saturday)
The third annual Black Maternal Health Walkathon takes place on Saturday at The Mall at Greece Ridge. The goal is to bring together families, healthcare leaders, doulas, advocates, and community partners to have conversations on maternal health. The walk will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. It will start near the Movie Theater entrance, and it’s open to everyone.
Healthy Baby Network is hosting the walk for Black Maternal Health Week, a national campaign to address disparities in maternal and infant outcomes for Black families. Organizers say Rochester has some of the highest infant mortality rates in New York State, and Black mothers have higher risks of complications during pregnancy and childbirth.
Holocaust remembrance concert (Sunday)
The Eastman School of Music will hold a free concert on Sunday in remembrance of those who died in the Holocaust.
The concert will feature music written by composers who died in concentration camps during World War II and music written in tribute to those who died. The 11th annual concert, titled “A Time to Remember…”, will take place at Kilbourn Hall within the Eastman Theatre. It begins at 7:30 p.m.
The performers will include Eastman students, faculty members, and graduates. One of the pieces will be Jonathan D. Kramer’s “Remembrance of a People”, which he wrote in 1996 in memory of the Holocaust’s victims. You can learn more about the schedule here.
