The emails and pictures that link Melania Trump to Jeffrey Epstein

Melania Trump has denounced “false smears” that she had any relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, but emails and photographs have provoked questions about the links between her and the convicted paedophile.

In an extraordinary address at the White House, the US First Lady denied online speculation that Epstein had introduced her to Donald Trump, saying she had met her husband at a party, two years before crossing paths with Epstein at another event she attended with Trump.

She also urged Congress to hold public hearings for Epstein victims to tell their stories under oath, raising the prospect of further public attention on an issue the US President has distanced himself from.

“The lies linking me with the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein need to end today,” Melania Trump said. “I am not Epstein’s victim,” she added.

She also denied knowing Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s jailed associate.

First Lady references email in Epstein files

Referencing a 2002 email sent between herself and Maxwell, released in the Epstein files, Melania said it showed nothing more than “casual correspondence”.

The email she appeared to be referring to was sent to “G. Max” – thought to be Ghislaine Maxwell – from “Melania”, the US Department of Justice documents show.

In the exchange, “G” tells Melania she does not have time to see her before leaving for New York.

Melania replies, saying: “Dear G! How are you? Nice story about JE in NY mag. You look great on the picture.”

She continued: “I know you are very busy flying all over the world. How was Palm Beach? I cannot wait to go down. Give me a call when you are back in NY. Have a great time!”

She signed the email: “Love, Melania”.

The New York Magazine article Melania references included quotes from now-President Trump calling Epstein a “terrific guy” who was “a lot of fun to be with”.

“It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them on the younger side,” the story quoted him saying. “No doubt about it – Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”

In her address on Thursday, the First Lady said: “My polite reply to her email doesn’t amount to anything more than a trivial note.”

Claims that Epstein introduced Donald Trump to his wife

The Epstein files also feature an interview with an alleged victim of Epstein who claims the financier introduced Melania Trump, then Melania Knauss, to Donald Trump.

The First Lady has strongly disputed such claims and taken legal action against those making them.

She has been embroiled in a legal dispute with author Michael Wolff over a claim in his book Fire and Fury that she was first introduced to her husband by a modelling agent tied to Epstein.

And in October 2025, HarperCollins UK said it would retract passages from historian Andrew Lownie’s book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, that included “unverified” claims that Trump and his wife met through Epstein.

The Daily Beast also retracted and apologised for an article which included the same allegations, which the publication later said “did not meet our standards”.

“My attorneys and I have fought these unfounded and baseless lies with success, and will continue to maintain my sound reputation without hesitation,” Melania said on Thursday.

In her 2024 memoir, Melania, the First Lady said she met the future president in 1998 at a New York Fashion Week party thrown by the former modelling agent Paolo Zampolli.

A photo in the Epstein files shows Epstein, Maxwell, President Trump and then-Melania Knauss together at the Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach in 2002.

The club was purchased by the President in 1985 and was taken before his third marriage.

Donald Trump has acknowledged that he knew Epstein for a time, but later claimed that he expelled him from his Mar-a-Lago club for being a “creep”.

The US President was mentioned numerous times in the Epstein files, but there is no indication of wrongdoing.
