ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Protesters gathered outside of Rep. Joe Morelle’s office on East Avenue on Wednesday evening to call for a permanent end to the war with Iran.
The group called for Congress to invoke the war powers resolution, which would restrict the White House’s ability to carry out further strikes without approval from Congress. A group of Senate Democrats said they plan to force a vote on a war powers resolution next week. Although the U.S., Israel, and Iran have agreed to a two-week ceasefire, recent strikes on the militant group Hezbollah have put the deal at risk.
Protesters also called for Rep. Morelle to co-sponsor a bill pledging never to be the first nation to use a nuclear weapon during a conflict. They called on Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand to co-sponsor a similar bill in the Senate.
