IKEA Launches New Menu Item Across Store Restaurants Nationwide

IKEA is adding a new item to U.S.-based menus this month.

The furniture and home goods company, founded in Sweden, is continuing its efforts to provide "more sustainable alternatives to meat-based food options."

The launch of the fish ball comes on the heels of its previous menu addition, the falafel ball, which officially debuted in stores in early January.

The fish ball will be available in IKEA U.S. restaurants to celebrate Earth Month, beginning on Earth Day on April 22.

Made with haddock, customers ordering the new dish will also be served mashed potatoes, green peas, lemon dill sauce, lingonberry jam and a lemon wedge.

An 8‑piece meal will start at $6.99, as IKEA prides itself in "offering customers an affordable and responsibly sourced seafood choice."

“At IKEA U.S., we believe that taking collective and consistent actions can create meaningful change for our planet,” said Mardi Ditze, Country Sustainability Manager at IKEA U.S. “Whether it’s choosing a plant-based meal, repairing a piece of furniture using our free Spare Parts Service, or shopping second-chance items in the As-is section, we aim to make it easier for the many to take simple steps that add up to a better everyday life and a more sustainable future.”

The website notes that all "all wild‑caught fish and shrimp served and sold at IKEA come from fisheries independently certified to Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standards, helping to support healthier oceans, protect marine ecosystems and secure seafood supplies for generations to come."

On April 24 and 25, select IKEA stores will offer free samples of the fish ball to customers.

According to the press release shared with Parade, the fish ball debut at IKEA supports the company's "ongoing efforts to create more sustainable and resilient food systems and is part of the brand’s broader Earth Month initiatives," which includes saving on circular services for IKEA Family Members, Tiny Chef in store experiences like a family-friendly scavenger hunt in participating stores nationwide and the American Red Cross donation match, where IKEA will match every dollar donated at checkout, up to $50,000, to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

As Parade previously reported, the retailer has worked to diversify its menu, shifting toward more vegetarian options to align with the growing demand for meat-free choices.

The Falafel Ball is made with chickpeas, zucchini, onions, and spices, offering a crispy crunch on the outside and a tender bite within, served on a platter with couscous, aioli, and a lemon wedge.

Additionally, IKEA already serves several vegan-friendly options, including the Veggie and Plant dogs and meatballs.

Everyone knows half the fun of shopping at IKEA is stopping by the food court for a mid-shopping spree bite, so be sure to try all the new options available.
