BUFFALO, N.Y. (WHEC) – The wait is now over! The Buffalo Sabres clinched a playoff berth after the New York Rangers defeated the Detroit Red Wings, ending a 15-year drought.
At times during the wait, it probably felt as if the end would never come. But with head coach Lindy Ruff back at the helm – the same coach to last lead the Buffalo Sabres to the playoffs – there’s a reason to celebrate.
But with five regular seasons games to play, the Sabres aren’t resting on their laurels.
“There’s no celebration,” said Ruff. “We still have a lot of work to do.”
Part of that work is ending a two-game losing streak after losing to the Washington Capitals, 6-3, on Saturday.
The Sabres are at 100 points, but are in play for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. A strong finish could give them home ice advantage for a few rounds, or at least for the first round of the playoffs.
They’ll try and pick things back up on Monday at 7 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
