Madison Lord and Andrew Torba Both Win Nine Events At Junior Mets

Long Island Aquatic Club hosted the SC Junior Metropolitan Championships meet in the middle of March, and there was some fast swimming across the board.

    11-year-old Madison Lord and 12-year-old Andrew Torba both won nine individual events during the meet, taking the gold medal in every individual event they swam.

    Lord, who swims for Badger Swim Club, won the 11-year-old events, setting personal best times in all nine of her event finals.

    She won the 50 free (25.27), 100 free (53.69), 200 free (1:56.30), 500 free (5:16.92), 50 back (29.48), 100 back (1:03.41), 50 fly (27.35), 100 fly (1:00.47), and 200 IM (2:14.80).

    Lord’s biggest drop came in the 500 free, where she went from 5:22.35 at the Katie Ledecky Invite in December to 5:16.92, a little more than five seconds faster.

    On the boys’ side, 12-year-old Andrew Torba from QNS Aquatic Club won nine 12-year-old boys events, setting eight personal best times.

    He went bests in the 100 free (52.62), 200 free (1:54.54), 50 breast (29.31), 50 fly (25.67), 100 fly (56.18), 100 IM (58.41), 200 IM (2:06.48), 400 IM (4:31.96). He also won the 100 breast, swimming 1:05.81, which was a seven tenth add from the 1:05.15 he swam in December.

    Torba was also a member of four relays for QNS Aquatic Club, all of which won the gold medals.

    Other Notable Performances

    Nico Lahre, 11 (Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester) — Lahre won eight gold medals in the 11-year-old events and one silver medal. He won the 100 free (55.77), 200 free (1:59.73), 500 free (5:19.28), 200 back (2:06.99), 100 fly (1:00.91), 200 fly (2:12.29), 200 IM (2:13.72), and 400 IM (4:39.98) while finishing 2nd in the 100 back (59.18). Leah O’Connell, 13 (Long Island Aquatic Club) — 13-year-old O’Connell, from the Long Island Aquatic Club, won eight gold medals. She swam the top time in the 13-year-old 200 free (1:53.42), 500 free (5:00.42), 1000 free (10:11.33), 100 back (58.35), 200 back (2:04.98), 100 breast (1:06.29), 200 IM (2:05.43), and 400 IM (4:21.87); she also finished 3rd in the 50 free (25.00). O’Connell set lifetime bests in the 50 free, 200 free, 1000 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM.
