While the original trio revisits their past, the narrative introduces a pivotal new protagonist: Elanor, the daughter of Samwise Gamgee. Elanor discovers a long-buried secret that propels her into a high-stakes investigation. Her mission is to uncover a hidden truth: why the War of the Ring was nearly lost before it even began.
The creative powerhouse
In a surprise move for fans, the screenplay will be co-written by Stephen Colbert—a renowned Tolkien scholar and television personality—alongside Oscar-winning franchise veterans Philippa Boyens and Peter McGee.
Production is slated to begin following the completion of “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum“, which Jackson is currently producing. The film, directed by and starring Andy Serkis as the titular creature, is scheduled for release between 2026 and 2027.
