Rookie Cooper Flagg has 51-point night in Mavericks’ loss

Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg became the youngest player in NBA history to have a 50-point game, as the rookie scored 51 in Friday’s 138-127 home loss to the Orlando Magic.

Flagg, who is 19 years, 103 days old, was briefly pulled late in the fourth quarter when he had 45 points by assistant coach Frank Vogel, who was filling in for ejected head coach Jason Kidd.

But after returning, Flagg hit a corner 3-pointer, then clinched 50 points with a bucket and foul, making the free throw and coming out of the game to a standing ovation. He finished with 24 points in the fourth quarter.

Flagg went 19-of-30 from the field, including 6-of-9 from long range, and made all seven free throws.

He’s the ninth rookie to score 50 or more points in a game, and the first to do it since Brandon Jennings scored 55 during the 2009-10 season, according to ESPN Research.
