Masked man crouching behind Natomas utility box attacks child riding bike, mom says

A young girl was blindsided near her Natomas home Wednesday afternoon when her mother says a man crouching behind a utility box jumped out and attacked her from behind as she rode her bike.

It happened just outside of American Lakes School near Nutwood Circle and Stonecreek Drive just before 3 p.m. The girl's mother said he was dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask with only his eyes showing.

"He jumped out, pushed her, she landed on her side right here," Corin Ramos said, showing CBS News Sacramento where her daughter then landed in the street. The details her 10-year-old daughter provided were disturbing for any parent to hear.  "She says that he reached for her private parts. She screamed loud. The police say even the neighbors heard her scream," Ramos said.

Her daughter raced home crying and her parents promptly reported the incident to Sacramento police that night.

Officers confirm to CBS Sacramento they are investigating. Ramos says they came out to her house twice on Thursday to follow up on the case.  At this time, a suspect has not yet been found.  "I went out in the car and just was searching. For anyone that might have looked like that. I don't know what my plan was, but I couldn't calm down after that," Ramos said. "I'm still nervous. I'm still nervous he is still out there and probably close by."  Sacramento police, about six months ago, also investigated another attack in the same area — a sexual battery of a woman picking her kids up from American Lakes School.

It happened on September 22, 2025, in broad daylight. According to the police report, the mother was cornered and groped at her car with her children in the back seat before the man ran away.  Police confirm no suspect in that case has been arrested.  Ramos fears they could be connected.  "It was the same description as the man who hurt my daughter. He was wearing black, had a mask on, a hooded sweatshirt, and he crept up on that woman, waited until she had her back turned and that's what he did to my daughter," Ramos said. She hopes to warn her Natomas neighbors to be on the lookout and keep their children close.  "He hid in the shadows. He lunged at her. I'm just really scared that there is somebody out there who is here targeting our kids and he is going to do it again," Ramos said. CBS Sacramento reached out to the Natomas Unified School District, which did not have any information to provide. This particular child does not attend school there and the American Lakes students are on spring break, so they were not on campus the day of the attack.

The daycare on site, however, was still open.  The district says they are cooperating with police and working to provide any surveillance video that may have captured the suspect.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Sacramento Police Department at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357).
