Ice cream fans have a new reason to celebrate because Blue Bell just quietly brought back a vintage flavor that's been a fan-favorite for decades.
Making its way back to creameries and freezer shelves just as the weather is warming up is Blue Bell's Tin Roof ice cream.
There's plenty to love about the flavor, as it perfectly blends rich, chocolatey bites with crunchy, salty swirls.
The company describes Tin Roof as "a creamy vanilla flavored ice cream with a rich chocolate sundae sauce and roasted peanuts dipped in a dark chocolate flavored coating."
The sweet and salty combo is hard to resist, which is why fans are always so thrilled when it makes its brief yet impactful appearance.

The flavor, first introduced in 1980, was discontinued in 2019; however, it occasionally resurfaces, with the latest sighting reported over a year ago, in January 2025. At the time, one fan gave it the rating 'tin out of ten,' while another called it their absolute 'favorite.'
Per Blue Bell's website, it is now available in half-gallon size or by the scoop at local creameries.
Perhaps because the flavor is so sought-after whenever it does return, the company kept the news hush-hush, simply sharing the news on a fleeting Instagram Story with a video teasing that "a fan favorite is back for a limited time."
Tin Roof's origins
Blue Bell didn't invent Tin Roof, though it is one of their most beloved flavors.
The flavor actually dates back to a 1930s ice cream sundae invented in Potter, Nebraska at Potter Sundry.
While the modern version simplifies it and cuts out a key indgredient, the original actually featured a marshmallow drizzle, per Tasting Table.
The creator of the flavor was Harold Dean "Pinky" Thayer, whose daughter, Kathy, says the name originated from the tin roof ceiling tiles above the counter where the flavor was first whipped up.
Over the years, its popularity has never wavered. In fact, since it's a limited-time rotating flavor for Blue Bell, meaning it can be hard to find year-round, it tends to sell out quickly as fans stock up their freezers.
If you want to get your hands on it, you'd better act quickly because once it's gone, it's gone... until the next time it makes a surprise appearance, of course.
If your luck has run out, don't worry, Blue Bell has plenty of delicious flavors to scoop into this season, including its latest releases that are perfect for spring: Brookie À La Mode flavor (combining three desserts into one) and Honey Vanilla.
