While the modern version simplifies it and cuts out a key indgredient, the original actually featured a marshmallow drizzle, per Tasting Table.
The creator of the flavor was Harold Dean "Pinky" Thayer, whose daughter, Kathy, says the name originated from the tin roof ceiling tiles above the counter where the flavor was first whipped up.
Over the years, its popularity has never wavered. In fact, since it's a limited-time rotating flavor for Blue Bell, meaning it can be hard to find year-round, it tends to sell out quickly as fans stock up their freezers.
