Yuvraj Singh drops truth behind commentary absence after retirement

Cricketers often take over the commentary job after retiring from professional cricket. For Yuvraj Singh, the matter is different. He distanced himself from the commentary works and paid focus on shaping the emerging Indian cricket talents. Singh, who took retirement from international cricket almost seven years ago, finally reveals the actual reasons why he did not choose to do commentary.

It is not that Yuvraj does not like the commentary job; it is rather a personal issue. As a retired cricketer, he is free from hide-and-seek games. So, without any fear or double thoughts in mind, the former middle-order batter opens up during an interaction with SportsTak.

Without mentioning any specific individual, Yuvraj Singh mentioned that he does not want to share the same room with anyone he personally doesn't like.

The former Indian batter claims that there were some instances when some commentators crossed their limits and made personal statements about Singh during their commentary jobs. He simply can't stand with those who have made personal opinions, which hurt Yuvraj.

?YUVRAJ SINGH ON WHY HE DON'T WANT DO COMMENTARY? He said?️- "People who have made personal comments about me. I think you should talk about someone's game. When you get personal, those comments stick forever. I don't want to commentary with people?pic.twitter.com/tvBlJAVzt8

"Now that I have retired, let me speak about the issue. The real issue is that those people who made remarks about me, not on cricket, but rather personal statements. I understand what you mean when you talk about the game. When you get personal, you always remember that," Yuvraj Singh said in the interview.

"I don't want to sit with the people who ..."

“I don't want to sit with the people who passed personal remarks about me. That's the main reason I don't want to do commentary. Commentary is a great place to speak about the game and how it has evolved. That is the main reason I don't want to do commentary,” he added.

Further in the interview, he mentioned that ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, Sanju Samson, who helped India to win the trophy, came to him to revive his career. Before the tournament, Samson had to struggle with his form and was unsure about his place in the team. Yuvraj suggested that the top-order batter work on the footwork.

Sanju Samson felt he was not finding a place: Yuvraj Singh

"Sanju had reached that stage where he felt he was not finding a place in the XI. The conversation I had with him happened in 2024 when India won that World Cup in Barbados. In that World Cup, Sanju was not playing."

"I had been watching his batting for 2-3 IPL seasons. I told him we would speak whenever he had time," the former cricketer, who groomed the stars like Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, stated.

"So my issue with Sanju was, you have to improve your footwork. If you don’t improve your footwork, you will consistently land in trouble. Scoring runs or not is different, but you have to improve your footwork. I gave him some ideas on how to improve it," Yuvraj continued.
