Featured Game: Brewers vs Royals (5:45 PM ET)

Milwaukee comes into this one hot. The Brewers are 5-1 on the young season, sitting atop the NL Central, and averaging 7.5 runs per game which leads all of baseball through the early going. Chad Patrick takes the mound for Milwaukee in his second start of the year. He allowed just one run on five hits in his first outing against the White Sox and has been building on a solid 2025 campaign where he posted a 3.53 ERA over nearly 120 innings.

Kansas City is 3-3 and gets an unplanned pitching change tonight. Michael Wacha was originally scheduled to start but was scratched due to illness. The Royals are calling up Luinder Avila from Triple-A Omaha to fill the spot. Avila made 13 relief appearances for Kansas City last season and was impressive, posting a 1.29 ERA over 14 innings with strong strikeout numbers. The Royals sent him to the minors specifically to develop him as a starter, but his debut in that role for Omaha this season was modest, giving up two runs in three innings.

The line opened roughly even given the original Wacha matchup, but the Avila callup creates a clear advantage for Milwaukee on the pitching side. The Brewers are -115 on the moneyline with the total set at 9. Given that the Royals are throwing a pitcher making his first MLB start in an unfamiliar role against a lineup that is scoring at the highest rate in baseball, the over and the Brewers moneyline are both worth serious consideration.

Featured Game: Mets vs Giants (8:15 PM ET)

This is the better pitching matchup of the two featured games and the more interesting betting spot from a total standpoint. Nolan McLean makes his second start of the season for the Mets. He struck out eight batters in five innings against Pittsburgh in his first outing, leaning heavily on his curveball. At 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA and a career FIP under 2.20, McLean is one of the better young arms in the game right now and is considered by some evaluators as an ace in the making.

Tyler Mahle takes the mound for San Francisco. He signed a one-year deal with the Giants in the offseason after posting a strong 2.18 ERA with the Rangers last season over 86 innings. His Opening Day start against the Yankees was decent but unspectacular, giving up two runs in four innings. Mahle has bounced around four teams in five years but his stuff remains legitimate when healthy.

The Giants are 2-4 and scoring just 2.33 runs per game, the worst mark in baseball. That number makes the under at -102 an appealing target with McLean on the mound and Oracle Park suppressing offense naturally. The Mets are -136 on the moneyline with the total at 7.5. The under is the sharp angle here given how well both pitching staffs have performed early in the season, with New York’s team ERA sitting at 2.50 which is third best in baseball.

    Responsible Gambling and Bankroll Management

With 15 games on the slate, it can be tempting to spread action across multiple matchups. The better approach is to be selective, size each bet consistently, and focus on the games where you have a genuine read on the pitching matchup or a specific edge you can identify. Chasing volume on a full slate is one of the fastest ways to drain a bankroll.
