BCCI approaches Indian government after BCB seeks to improve cricketing ties with India

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has written an official letter to the BCCI referring to the historical relationship between the two boards. However, the BCCI has intended not to make any decisions without direction from its central government.

The major fiasco between India and Bangladesh transformed from a political war to a clash between the two boards after the IPL mini-auction in December 2025. Despite the concerns, Mustafizur Rahman was picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders. However, the franchise had to release the player following a directive from the BCCI.

This directive was issued at the back of rising political tensions in India, as people protested against the purchase of a Bangladeshi cricketer, following the atrocities on Hindus in the neighbouring nation. The BCB, in response to this step, refused to travel to India for the ICC T20 World Cup.

After Bangladesh had refused to travel to India for the ICC T20 World Cup, they cited security concerns as one of the biggest issues and also demanded a swap in venue. The BCB refused to send its team over despite several attempts of reassurance by the ICC as well as the BCCI.

During the tenure of the interim government in Bangladesh led by Mohammad Yunus, the relations between the two nations were further ruined, as were the relations between the two cricket boards.

However, after the appointment of the newly elected government in Bangladesh, the Sports Minister, Nazmul Haque, had initiated the efforts to restore their cricketing ties with the nation.

As reported by Dainik Jagran, the BCB has formally written to the BCCI to resume their cricketing relations after they cited the historical relationship between the two nations. Discussions have also been held for a possible India tour of Bangladesh.

Will India never travel to Bangladesh following the T20 World Cup fiasco?

Last year, in 2025, India had a long white-ball series scheduled to be played against Bangladesh. The Men in Blue were supposed to travel to Bangladesh for a three-match ODI and a three-match T20I series in September 2025.

However, the BCCI had postponed the series, citing the growing workload of the team and the busy international schedule. However, the tensions between the two nations and the security of the cricketers could have been the real reason in the backdrop.

Citing the relation between the two nations and the ongoing tensions after the T20 World Cup, the tour is likely to be cancelled. On the other hand, Bangladesh are likely to host the next edition of the Asia Cup, and if India refuses to travel, then the tournament would have to be shifted to a neutral venue like Dubai or Sri Lanka.

Jay Shah did not impose any sanctions on Bangladesh following the T20 World Cup exit

After the ICC snubbed Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup following their boycott, several cricket boards, especially the BCB and the PCB, had claimed that the Jay Shah-led International Committee is biased towards particular boards.

However, the former BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who now functions as the chairman of the ICC, has been impartial in his ways. He did not ask BCB to withdraw their team; it was a decision totally made by the Bangladesh board. ICC clearly cited logistical challenges if BCB's demands were to be met.

However, the ICC could render decisions against the BCB and could impose sanctions for having violated an announced international schedule. However, Jay Shah didn't impose any sporting or administrative sanctions on Bangladesh and instead assured future hosting opportunities.
