More than three decades after she vanished, a missing Arizona teen has been found alive and well, authorities said.
Christina Marie Plante was first reported missing in May 1994 when she was just 13 years old.
“Investigators have confirmed her identity, and her status as a missing person has been officially resolved,” the Gila County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement via Facebook on Wednesday, April 1.
Authorities said that Plante disappeared from Star Valley without a trace.

“At the time of her disappearance, extensive search efforts were conducted involving local law enforcement, volunteers, and regional resources,” the statement read. “Despite exhaustive ground searches, interviews, and investigative follow-up, no viable leads were developed.”
After she was reported missing, Plante was entered into national missing children databases and missing person flyers were distributed across the country in an attempt to locate her.

Officials said they used technological advances, modern investigative techniques and detailed case review amid the investigation. The tools ultimately helped detectives develop new leads, which led to the breakthrough that helped them locate Plante.
“This case underscores the importance of cold case review initiatives and the impact of evolving technology in bringing long-awaited answers to families and communities,” the statement read.
The department concluded the post by insisting that they’re dedicated to solving cold cases, no matter how long ago the cases took place.
“The Gila County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to pursuing all unresolved cases and encourages anyone with information regarding other cold cases to come forward,” the statement read.
