Arizona Diamondbacks president and CEO Derrick Hall shouldered the blame for the new ribbon boards at Chase Field that are partially obstructing views.
He added the team is working with the fans who have complained directly to the Diamondbacks on a solution, though removing or altering the boards is likely “not possible.”
“A bit of a miss obviously. Some people have partially obstructed views and they didn’t have them before. They could see in between the railings and they could see every part of the field including foul ground,” Hall told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta on Thursday. “That’s a problem. It’s a problem for me, too, but it’s one of those where it’s, ‘What can we do now?’ I’ve had fans say just remove it or lower it. That’s probably not possible but we talked about it internally every day feverishly.
“Any time you change a fan’s point of view, especially those that have been there since Day 1, it’s an issue, it’s a problem. We’ve talked to each and every one that have brought a complaint to us, and we talked about relocation or refund. We’re always going to do that, because we care most about the fans. It bothers me, it hurts me and it really comes down to me. It’s on me and no one else.”
According to Hall, Arizona has talked with 28 fans who have reached out about the obstructed views from the ribbon boards. A lot of the complaints have come from the first few rows of the 300 level of the stadium.

The press box was also impacted by the ribbon boards, with the game operations crew forced to move back to get a full view of the field.
“I’m keeping track … (28 fans) doesn’t sound like a big number, but it could be one and I’m not happy,” Hall said. “Of course, we tested and we had cardboard structures out there where it would be and then it ended up being a little bit further than the facade, because we have a catwalk for future repairs.”
