Former Alabama and Oklahoma assistant coach Pauline Love was announced as the next head coach of Crimson Tide women’s basketball Wednesday morning. The hire comes little more than a week after previous head coach Kristy Curry left for South Florida.
“I’m incredibly honored to lead the Alabama women’s basketball program,” Love said. “This is a place with a championship standard, and we’re going to build a team that reflects that every day through toughness, togetherness and trust.”
Love is coming off one season as associate head coach at Oklahoma. With her help on the coaching staff, the Sooners went 26-8 and advanced all the way to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, losing to No. 1 seed South Carolina. Before that, she was an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator for Alabama in 2024-25, Curry’s penultimate year and a campaign in which the Crimson Tide made it to the second round of the tournament and had three players taken in the 2025 WNBA draft.
From 2017-2024, Love occupied the same position for the Arkansas Razorbacks, helping recruit a slew of 4- and 5-star talents while also playing a part in multiple NCAA Tournament appearances.
The move was first announced by On3 Sports’ Talia Goodman. Yea Alabama posted a video on X later in the afternoon, showing athletic director Greg Byrne en route to Norman to meet with and bring Love back to Tuscaloosa.
“We’re so excited to have her join the University of Alabama and make a huge impact on the young women in our women’s basketball program,” Byrne said.
Love said she’s “excited to get to work with our players, connect with this community and build something special in Tuscaloosa.” She will be formally introduced as head coach in a press conference at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
