Australia spinner Adam Zampa has justified his decision to pull out of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) and play in the rival tournament Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) instead. The spinne, who made his IPL debut way back in 2016, did not register for the mini-auction that took place in December last year, and intead decided to explore a new avenue by taking part in the first-ever PSL auction. Zampa has opened up on his decision to snub IPL and for PSL and cited ‘money’ has one of the main factors.
Why did Zampa prefer PSL over IPL?
In an interview with a Pakistan channel, Zampa claimed that he did not get the money he deserved for his skill set and the time he devotes in the IPL and hence decided to pull out. He explained that it wasn’t a reasonable choice for him to be a part of the IPL due to these factors and hence took a break. Zampa’s salary in the IPL has ranged from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 2.40 crore.
However, his ‘money’ claim is quite illogical as he earns lesser money than what he used to get in the previous IPL season. Zampa has signed with the Karachi Kings for PKR 4.5 crore (INR 1.51 cr)
“I wasn’t really on the radar. I pulled out of the IPL. To be brutally honest, someone with my skill set , just don’t get the money that is there for other skill sets and for the amount of time the IPL takes. It didn’t seem like a reasonable choice for me to keep playing it. I was thinking of taking a break, but then PSL was on the radar,” Zampa said.

— Tehseen Qasim (@Tehseenqasim) March 31, 2026For the unversed, it is usually IPL discards who prefer playing in the PSL as it happens in the same window as the former. Usually, players prefer snubbing PSL for IPL as they are awarded with lucarative contracts while the prospects of representing franchises in other T20 leauges across the globe increases as IPL-linked teams are present all over the world. The likes of Corbin Bosch, Blessing Muzarabani, Dasun Shanaka are some of the stars who have withdrawn from the PSL to take part in the IPL.
