A 25-year-old woman walking in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood Monday night was caught in the crosshairs of a shooting, police said, with the scene drawing a large police presence to one of the city’s most famous shopping areas.
According to Chicago police, the shooting took place between people inside two vehicles, with the woman getting struck by gunfire.
The incident began about 9:27 p.m. when a 22-year-old man driving a red sedan near the intersection of East Chicago and Michigan Avenues was approached with a white sedan. An unknown person inside the white sedan pulled out a gun and fired shots, police said
The 22-year-old man was not injured, police said, but the red car was struck multiple times. A 25-year-old woman walking outside was also struck in the thigh.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital where she was last listed in fair condition.
Video and photos from the scene showed a large police presence outside stores near Chicago and Michigan Avenues, with part of the area taped off. Two cars, a black SUV and a red sedan could also be seen crashed near the scene.
