A limited television series about the Jeffrey Epstein scandal is currently in production, with Laura Dern set to star and director and producer Adam McKay serving as producer, according to Variety.
The highly anticipated series is based on the book “Perversion of Justice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story” by journalist Julie K. Brown, a reporter for the Miami Herald, who played a pivotal role in reopening the case and bringing Epstein’s crimes to light after years of investigative reporting.
Dern is slated to portray Brown in the series, in addition to serving as an executive producer.
The series is described as a gripping drama that highlights the efforts of an investigative journalist who managed to uncover a secret deal Epstein made with federal prosecutors.
The work also details the investigations that led to the identification of about 80 victims, and convincing a number of survivors to give their testimonies, which later contributed to the arrest of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, through their company Hyperobject Industries, are also executive producers, along with Julie K. Brown.
Variety noted that the project is still in the process of finding a streaming platform, but the chances of it becoming a series appear high.
If it does materialize, it will be the first drama to tackle the Epstein case, which has previously been explored in numerous documentaries and docudramas.
The case revolves around a vast sex trafficking network that Epstein ran for years, linked to prominent figures and making it one of the most controversial cases in the US recently.
