Virág Zámbó from Gyor, Hungary has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Illinois beginning in fall 2026.
Zámbó most recently competed at the Gyor Open. There she swam to a lifetime bests in the long course 50 free (28.13), 50 back (32.15), and 50 breast (37.42).
Last summer at the Hungarian Youth Championships, she finished 4th in the LCM 100 fly (1:02.75) and 4th in the 200 fly (2:17.38).
Zámbó’s Best LCM Times (With SCY Conversions) Are:
100 fly: 1:01.03 (53.72) 200 fly: 2:15.07 (1:59.16)The Illinois women finished 14th out of 14 teams at the 2026 Big Ten Championships with 195.5 points, finishing just behind Iowa who scored 216 points. The team was led by Chloe Diner who scored 20 individual points and was highlighted by a 10th place finish in the 100 breast (1:00.26).
Based on her best times, Zámbó is a huge addition to the program as her best converted time in the 200 fly would have made the Big Ten ‘B’ final. Illinois had no entries in the event this past season at Big Tens. It took a 53.24 to score in the 100 fly.
Zámbó will arrive this fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with swimmers Kate Farrell and Eva Paraschiv, and diver Hanna Ekdahl.
