As Netflix's new horror series, Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, hits screens, viewers may have been surprised to see a secret guest star appear midway through the series.
Horror icon Victoria Pedretti makes an unannounced appearance in the show, which is executive produced by Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers, as Alexandra, as the mother of Camila Morrone's character Rachel Harkin, with episode 4 exploring a terrifying chapter in Rachel's family history.
Starring alongside Logan Miller as a young Jay, Rachel's father, Pedretti was tasked with some of the most horrifying scenes in the entire series.
Speaking exclusively to Radio Times, showrunner Haley Z Boston explained: "I'm a huge fan of her, and I think a lot of of horror fans are.
"She's so brilliant, so great in this genre - the way she captures fear, and she's very good at externalising these very internal emotions. I was surprised that she agreed to do it, and she really elevated that character."
In fact, Pedretti's performance even changed the structure of the entire episode, with Boston adding: "It was challenging to depart from the main story - and if you're going to do that, you really need to compel the audience with a different character, a different story.

That's not how the script was written. It was supposed to cut back to Rachel, and because their performances were so strong, we were able to structure the episode that way."
Pedretti is best known for her roles in Mike Flanagan's Netflix horror hits The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, as well as the psychological thriller You.
Boston also added that fans will have heard Pedretti earlier in the season, as she voices the podcast in the very first episode - and that's not the only Easter egg fans need to watch out for.
As well as popping some Stranger Things references into the show, Boston also pointed out: "The address of the house is 11376, which is the date that Carrie came out.
"And then towards the end of the pilot, Rachel wears a shirt that has the Timberline Lodge on it, which is a place in Oregon where they shot The Shining, so it's fun for me to see those things, and you're prepping the show, and people are asking for things like the house number. So why not make it an homage to what influenced me and my work?"
