FM discusses with European top diplomat de-escalation in region

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Expatriate, Badr Abdelatty, received a phone call from the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas.

The discussion focused on ways to reduce military escalation in the region, developments regarding the Palestinian issue, and broader regional developments amid the serious military escalation currently affecting the area.

Kallas expressed her deep appreciation for President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s efforts to calm tensions and reduce escalation in the region, as well as Egypt’s ongoing mediation initiatives.

She highlighted the serious consequences that regional escalation could have on energy security and the global economy and emphasized the European side’s reliance on continued Egyptian efforts to contain the situation, similar to Egypt’s role in the Gaza file.

For his part, Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s position aimed at de-escalation, stressing the urgent need for joint coordination between Egypt and the EU to advance diplomatic channels and political solutions, in order to prevent the widening of the conflict.

He also condemned the attacks against sister Gulf countries, underlining the importance of immediately halting such actions.

The call also addressed developments in the Palestinian issue, where the minister condemned attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians and their property in the West Bank, emphasizing that these actions constitute a blatant violation of international law and undermine prospects for peace.

Abdelatty briefed the EU official on Egypt’s ongoing efforts to ensure the implementation of all elements of the second phase of the U.S. President Donald Trump plan, including the deployment of an international stability force and the entry of the Gaza Management Committee to begin its work, paving the way for the Palestinian Authority to fully assume its responsibilities.

He stressed the importance of intensifying international efforts, including European initiatives, to protect Palestinian civilians and continue working to create conditions conducive to resuming the political process aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian cause.

Both sides agreed on the necessity of continued coordination and consultation within the framework of the close relations and strategic partnership between Egypt and the EU, and on combining efforts to reduce regional escalation.

They emphasized that the diplomatic path is the way to prevent the region from sliding into further instability. MENA
