So, what do we think, Blackhawks fans? Game One of the Anton Frondell Experience is in the books. Let’s hear all of the hype and excitement (and I guess the other stuff, too). The Blackhawks started the night with Frondell on a line with Connor Bedard an Ryan Greene — a line that has a combined age of only 60!
Anton Frondell: “It still feels like a dream.”“My first shift, I felt like, ‘Oh wow, this is going really fast.’ #13 there [Barzal], when he comes at high speed, it’s hard to know what to do. But I just try my best, try to compete.”
According to Natural Stat Trick, Frondell finished the night with five shot attempts (two on net), two individual scoring chances and one individual high danger chance in 15:43. Add in two blocked shots and one it and it was a pretty well stuffed box score for the 18-year-old who played in a playoff game in Sweden on Saturday.

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) March 25, 2026He was physically ready for the NHL and his defense really stood out for me. Check this defensive play from Frondell to take the puck away from Matthew Schaefer and get off a shot last night. For, again, an 18-year-old, the physical maturity was impressive.
Anton Frondell with a defensively play on Matthew Schaefer then wires one just wide. His wrist shot is just as good as his slap shot. #Blackhawks pic.twitter.com/lqeS8mH7XF

— Steven Ellis (@SEllisHockey) March 24, 2026 With Frondell skating on Bedard’s wing with Greene, it was the Blackhawks’ second line that really stole the show last night. Specifically, Nick Lardis was great. After the game, Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill said, “I think Lards’ game [Sunday] was his best game, and this one might have been better.” What coaches want is for young players to show they’re ready for opportunities — and to take them and go when given. Lardis, like Lukas Reichel and a few others before him, spent time in the bottom six showing he can play a more complete game (the chagrin of Blackhawks fans everywhere). When he did get a chance to play with more skilled offensive players, he showed he was worthy. Now he’s getting a longer look on the line with Frank Nazar and Tyler Bertuzzi and… folks, it’s been really, really good. What an effort by Nick Lardis to pick up his third point of the game: t.co/TAJWwFYR6C pic.twitter.com/hw1fY8eBnP
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) March 25, 2026 As I noted in my postgame last night, I think the play that stood out most for me was Lardis physically taking the puck away and setting up Nazar for his goal (above). Those are the kinds of plays that earn you a top-six spot for a while. Those are the kinds of plays we rarely saw from Lukas Reichel. Lardis is doing that. He’s going to need to continue doing that, but so far the returns are excellent. Yes, the Blackhawks were massively overwhelmed in the third period last night; Natural Stat Trick had the shot attempts at 49-14 and scoring chances at 28-4 in the third! But the grain of salt we need to employ on last night was the Islanders are sitting right on the cut line for the wild card in the Eastern Conference. That’s a good team battling for a playoff spot. Last night felt like a playoff game — something we’ve all been craving from the Blackhawks for a few years. And, this time, the Blackhawks held on and won the game. And a big part of that was the play in goal. Flawless? No. But you know what? For all of the crap that’s said and written and tweeted and commented about him, that was a big time performance. So how about a couple more stick taps for Arvid Söderblom last night please. What a save by Arvid Soderblom: pic.twitter.com/ZRRQrUtCTh
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) March 25, 2026 According to Ben Pope on Twitter, Blashill “said he still might try Greene at center at some point, but he was noncommittal.” Sacha Boisvert was able to join the Blackhawks on the ice for the morning skate because his visa finally cleared, but it was last minute enough that the coaches didn’t want to throw him in there with Frondell last night. The Blackhawks have three more games on the trip, including a back-to-back in Philly and against the Rangers on Thursday and Friday. He’ll get in soon, folks.Jeff Blashill said they found out about Sacha Boisvert’s visa last-minute this morning, so he will make his debut later on this trip

— Scott Powers (@ByScottPowers) March 24, 2026 It’s a shame the Islanders couldn’t work out a ride-share with the Blackhawks to get Frondell’s teammate and friend, Victor Eklund, to the rink for last night’s game. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported Eklund is expected to follow Frondell to the NHL this week. It would have been fun for the two to make their NHL debuts together — as opponents. With Anton Frondell set to make his NHL debut tonight with the #Blackhawks, his Djurgardens teammate Victor Eklund is set to follow him across the pond. I'm told Victor Eklund (16th overall in 2025) is expected to join the #Isles org at some point this week.
