French distance freestyler Carla Serra has announced her commitment to the University of Florida as a part of the Gator women’s 2026 recruiting class.

I am incredibly excited and grateful to announce my commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Florida! I would like to sincerely thank Coach Nesty, Coach Kristin, and the entire Gators staff for this amazing opportunity and for believing in me from the very beginning. I cannot wait to be part of such a legendary program and to train alongside outstanding teammates who share the same passion and ambition. I would also like to thank my family and friends for supporting me throughout the process. I am proud and honored to become a Florida Gator, and I am so excited for this next chapter both in the pool and academically. Go Gators

Serra hails from Canet en Roussillon, France, where she represents Canet 66 Natation. She recently competed at the 2025 France Junior National Championships (SCM) in December, where she won several lifetime best times, including a winning performance in the 800 freestyle, clocking 8:33.50, a time that was nearly 12 seconds faster than she went at this meet last year in 8:47.43, where she finished 5th. She also swam her fastest-ever times in the 200 free (2:02.09, 11th), 400 free (4:12.60, 5th), and 1500 free (16:36.62, 3rd).

Serra also has international racing experience, having competed at the European Junior Championships (LCM) last summer, with her highest finish coming in the 1500 free (16:34.88), where she placed 5th overall. She also made finals in the 800 free (8:44.24), touching 6th overall.

She swam her fastest long-course 800 free and 1500 free times at the French Elite Championships in June, finishing runner-up in the 800 free (8:40.76) and 3rd in the 1500 free (16:33.10).

Serra has also competed at both the 2024 World Aquatics Open Water Swimming Junior World Championships and the 2024 European Aquatics Junior OWS Championships, placing 19th at the World Junior Championships in the women’s 7.5 km in 1:28:40.00 and 7th at the European Junior Championships in the same event in 1:36:15.20.

Best Times (Converted to SCY):

Serra joins a Florida women’s program that recently finished 3rd at the SEC Championships and 10th at the 2026 NCAA Championships.

Based on those converted times, Serra would have finished 8th in the 1650 free and 22nd in the 500 free at the 2026 SEC Championships.

She fits in well into a strong Gators distance group that still boast a good bit of youth, as two of the top three of their top 1650 freestylers will be returning in Michaela Mattes (R-So.) and Julie Brousseau (So.), which should make for a strong training group for years to come.

Head Coach Anthony Nesty‘s distance training groups have featured several prominent domestic and international powerhouses over the years, including Katie Ledecky, Bobby Finke, and Kieran Smith, among others, and Serra’s already impressive international resume seems to be a great fit for that group.

Serra is set to join Valentinia Procaccini, Lillie McPhearson, Bomin Kim, and Maddie Moreth in Gainesville in the fall as a part of Florida’s 2026 recruiting class.
