WHAT: Village council meeting Thursday

PRESENT: John Metzinger, Brian Bosheff, Kerry Reckard, Don Smith, Joe Sanson and Mayor Ray Lewis

    ABSENT: Sean Schmidt

    Council:

    • Heard from Lewis the fire association will only handle the parade for the four-day summer homecoming festival, with the village looking for a nonprofit to assist with bingo, rides, entertainment and other events.

    • Approved the sale of an ambulance no longer needed by the fire department.

    * Heard from Lewis that residents need to make sure vehicles are locked and no keys left inside as two vehicles were recently stolen in the village. He said Flock cameras were used to find the vehicles in Liberty and Warren.

    • Reported there was a recent fire at the McDonald Creamery, but the business is back up running.

    • Heard from Village Administrator Tom Domitrovich that Lindy Paving will begin paving Sixth Street this spring.

    • Heard from police Chief Ryan Ronghi that he will attend a police chiefs’ meeting April 9 on billing from the Trumbull County 911 Center to local departments.

    • Were informed the fire department received a $13,190 grant from the State Fire Marshal’s Office for turnout gear and other equipment.

    • Announced the 10-year anniversary of the senior center is 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the community building.

    • Were informed the village has $8,550 in Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council funds for an energy efficiency project.

    • Approved the Niles boys tennis team using Woodland Park tennis courts for home matches as they wait for courts in Niles to be completed. Lewis said the team makes a donation to the village for use of the courts.

    • Heard from Reckard the village is getting a new scoreboard for the girls ballfield at the park, with the school district covering the cost of the scoreboard and the village and local baseball association handling installation and other costs.

    • Heard from Reckard that a recent wind storm damaged the cupola at the administration building.

    • Approved Heidi Hoffman as park supervisor for the summer. The village is seeking local high school students as park attendants with a deadline to apply of April 15. Lewis said he would like to have eight park attendants.

    • Will be presenting scholarships from the Cindy Green Robinson Memorial and the Michael O’Brien Memorial to two graduating McDonald High School seniors.

    • Changed the dates of the next meetings to 6 p.m. April 8 and 22. The committee meetings are 6 p.m. April 7.
