How Alabama softball is looking as they continue into SEC play

Alabama softball’s Team 30 has repeatedly proven to be one of the best teams in Alabama softball history, opening with a 25-0 streak that tied it with the program’s fourth best open to the season and smashing other records along the way.

Opening weekend, the Crimson Tide shattered the previous record of 10 home runs on opening weekend, which was set in 2012 and then tied in 2022, with 18 home runs.

Later in February, freshman RHP Kaitlyn Pallozi threw the 10th perfect game in Alabama softball’s history against Elon at the Dugout Club Classic. This was the first perfect game in Alabama history to be thrown by a freshman.

“A perfect game by a freshman in Game 1 and a complete game shutout by a freshman in Game 2,” head coach Patrick Murphy said. “I’m not sure I’ve seen two better-pitched games by freshmen in my career at Alabama.”

While Alabama will continue to face tougher opponents as the season progresses, already amid SEC play, the Crimson Tide has gotten off to a good start with several averages higher than previous record-breaking teams.

Currently, the team’s batting average sits at .340, only .005 over the program record set in 2007.

The Crimson Tide is currently averaging 24.8 at-bats per game and has taken to the plate 770 times through 31 games.

The school record for the highest number of at-bats sits at 2,126, which was set in 2000. Alabama played in 80 games that season, putting its average number of at-bats at 26.58.

Alabama has averaged 6.93 runs per game. The record for the most runs in a season is held by the 2007 team with a total of 463 runs.

The 2012 team that holds the last national championship won by Alabama had a total of 459 runs across 68 games, making for an average of 6.75 runs per game.

Currently, Team 30 sits at an average of 8.47 hits per game. The record for the most hits is held by the 2005 team with 612 hits and an average of 7.85 per game.

Senior utilitywoman Alexis Pupillo currently holds the team lead in almost every batting category with a .456 batting average, 90 at-bats, 35 RBIs, and 41 total hits, with 11 of those being home runs and one triple.

Pupillo’s current batting average has her sixth in program history behind infielder Lauren Parker, who finished out her 2007 season with an average of .457. While Pupillo’s batting average could dip as the season continues, she is on pace to challenge multiple team records if she continues on this pace.
