The opening 20 minutes of this game were a masterclass of a well-tuned machine dominating a young team playing the second night of a back-to-back. The Avs were averaging one shot on goal per minute and their 15th puck on net went in off the stick of Martin Necas at 13:19 into the opening frame. Brock Nelson doubled the lead two minutes later on the power play with a really nice redirect and the Blackhawks were really chasing it.
The Blackhawks got on the board in the second period and played a better 20 minutes (I know, low bar to clear) but the numbers were still heavily favoring the Avs everywhere but the scoreboard, where the lead was only one after 40 minutes.
Colorado got a power play 13 seconds into the third period and it took them 23 seconds of the advantage to extend their lead back to two.
Star 1: Wyatt Kaiser
I’ve talked about how good Kaiser has been defensively in the takeaways after a lot of games recently. When he flashes the speed and the hands and gets the Blackhawks on the board in the second period? Yeah, he’s getting a star tonight. Love to see this from a guy who’s playing really good hockey all year.

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) March 21, 2026Star 2: Frank Nazar
Nazar made a gorgeous move on Cale Makar in the first period to attempt a spinning shot that went just wide. He had a great look on a 2-on-1 with Bertuzzi in the second that hit the post. He blocked three shots and had three of the Blackhawks’ six total individual high danger chances at 5-on-5 in the first two periods. He was flying, he was trying… he just didn’t finish. Nazar was far from alone in the “couldn’t buy one” category tonight.
Star 3: Arvid Söderblom
Söderblom kept the Blackhawks in the game probably longer than they deserved. Was his rebound control flawless in the first period? No. Did he gamble a couple times and get incredibly lucky in the second? Certainly. But he also successfully stopped 32 of 34 in the first two periods.
Key Takeaways
How bad was the first period? Scoring chances were 19-6 in favor of Colorado. High danger chances were 11-3 for the Avs. Actual shots on net were 20-5. The score only being 2-0 felt like a small win when the horn sounded. Natural Stat Trick had the shot attempts at 31-15 and scoring chances at 20-10 in the second period, but the Avs didn’t score. After 40 minutes, shot attempts were 63-28 and scoring chances were 39-17 for Colorado. In an effort to mix things up, the Blackhawks started the second period with Nick Lardis on a line with Nazar and Tyler Bertuzzi. Lardis didn’t have a great period with those two. He finished the night with more hits than shots on net. Thru two periods, Artyom Levshunov had skated 16:05 — 3:05 more than any other Chicago defenseman. He had took an unfortunate double-minor while the Blackhawks were on the power play in the third. Levshunov skated over 20 minutes again and was credited with four hits and one blocked shot in the heavy work load. On the other end of the ice time pendulum, Ethan Del Mastro only skated 9:15 of the opening 40 minutes. But he was also physical, picking up four hits, one takeaway and one blocked shot in the first two periods. Andrew Mangiapane and Louis Crevier weren’t available for the game because of injuries sustained in the game in Minnesota on Thursday night. Before the game, head coach Jeff Blashill said he doesn’t think either is a long-term issue. Without Crevier as the top right-handed defenseman on the penalty kill, Levshunov moved up that depth chart. Colorado scored on their first two power plays fairly quickly. Dominic Toninato was recalled on Friday morning and dressed. He also took the first penalty of the game; the Avs scored their second goal of the night while he was in the box.Hence then, the article about blackhawks 1 avalanche 4 three stars key takeaways was published today ( ) and is available on Bleacher Nation ( Middle East ) The editorial team at PressBee has edited and verified it, and it may have been modified, fully republished, or quoted.
