ROCHESTER, N.Y. — An appellate court ruled on Friday that the Rochester Police Accountability Board does not have the authority to recommend discipline against Rochester Police Department officers.
According to the decision, the local law giving the PAB that power is unlawful because it conflicts with state law and collective bargaining agreements.
Locust Club leaders say this was inevitable, saying the PAB was exceeding its legal authority and violating its members’ rights.
The executive director of the PAB says this decision undermines the clear will of the community and hampers its ability to pursue accountability.
