Natasha Lyonne Gives Promising Update After Recent Relapse

Actor Natasha Lyonne took to X this week to give fans and well-wishers an update on her ongoing progress about three months after she revealed that she had relapsed in a years-long sobriety journey.

"Proud to report this kid is doing a whole lot better & back on her feet," Lyonne shares in her recent X post, and goes on to thank fans and recovery communities who have been supportive since she went public with her relapse. But the most telling and promising part of her message follows, "Aiming to keep the journey somehow private, but look forward to sharing my experience, strength & hope as makes sense. My heart is with everyone ever going through it."

It's Lyonne's use of the words, "experience, strength and hope." This terminology evokes one of the foundational concepts used by many 12-step recovery programs. More specifically, it refers to the passage, "Our stories disclose in a general way what we used to be like (experience), what happened (strength), and what we are like now (hope)," from Chapter 5, "How It Works," of Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How Many Thousands of Men and Women Have Recovered from Alcoholism (aka, the Big Book). This book is commonly used in in programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

The idea here is that openly and honestly sharing true personal stories from when you were drinking or using, as well as those from one's own sobriety journey, helps everyone in the program rooms find relatability and inspiration. It feels incredibly important to see Lyonne staying aligned with this premise. Rooting for you, girl!
