Starting Monday, Mar. 23, sections of Hillsborough’s Governor Burke Road and Carrboro’s E. Popular Avenue and Roberson Street will be closed by crews conducting repairs.
A release from the North Carolina Department of Transportation said a planned pipe replacement will lead to the temporary closure of a section of Governor Burke Road in Hillsborough starting at the beginning of the week. Work will take place between N.C. 57 and Miller Road, and will begin at 9 a.m. Weather permitting, the department said it expects work to be complete by Mar. 31.
While those living on that stretch of road will still have access to their driveways, traffic will have to use one of multiple detour routes, including on Farmview Road, Miller Road, N.C. 86 and N.C. 57. NCDOT officials urge drivers to factor detours and delays into their travel plans, and exercise caution when driving near working crews.
In Carrboro, resurfacing on both E. Poplar Avenue and Roberson Street will also begin on Monday. The stretch of E. Poplar Avenue between N. Greensboro Street and W. Main Street will be the first part of the road resurfaced. Only a small section of Roberson Street near the Drakeford Library Complex is scheduled for work.
While the Town of Carrboro’s release did not say roads would be fully closed, it did say drivers should expect temporary lane closures and stay alert when traveling through these areas. The release also did not provide an estimated timeframe for when the work’s completion.
