ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Six Section V teams are competing in state semifinals for high school basketball this weekend, with two girls squads kicking off the action with wins on Thursday.
Aquinas knocked off William Floyd 67-37 in Class AAA. The Lil Irish will play two-time defending state champions Albertus Magnus in Friday’s final at 6 p.m. Aquinas lost in the AA championship one season ago.
In Class D, Batavia Notre Dame handled Section Four’s Stamford/Jefferson, 73-57. The Lady Irish will take on Chateaugay, with tipoff after Aquinas’ game finishes.
The semifinal round for states continues on Friday with Fairport boys and Penfield boys playing in the AAA and AA tournaments. Fairport will play at 1:30 pm, Penfield will play at 10 am.
On Saturday, Mercy girls will play in A while Lyons boys plays in Class C. The Monarchs are set to tipoff at 10 am and with a win, would advance to Sunday’s final, also scheduled for 10 am.
The Lions’ semifinal is set for 1:30 pm Saturday with Sunday’s final scheduled for 11:45 am.
The boys are playing in Binghamton at the Vision’s Veterans Memorial Arena. The girls are playing at Hudson Valley Community College.
