Beloved 90s Actress, Who Starred in Iconic Sitcom, Turns 93

After 80 years in the industry, inspiring fans with her work across film and television, Renée Taylor celebrated her 93rd birthday on Thursday.

The actress was born and raised in New York City. Taylor started her career as a comedian in the early 1960s, performing in various nightclubs in Manhattan, where a then-unknown Barbra Streisand sometimes opened for her. In 1967, Taylor played an actress portraying Eva Braun in Mel Brooks' feature film The Producers, a role she got while in the play Luv with Gene Wilder.

    Throughout the 1970s, Taylor and her husband, Joseph Bologna, co-wrote many films together, including Lovers and Other Strangers, which was nominated for an Oscar. The two also wrote and starred in the rom-com Made for Each Other.

    After appearing in numerous films and TV shows throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Taylor had her breakthrough in the CBSsitcom The Nanny, playing the title character's mother, Sylvia Fine. The TV show aired from November 1993 to June 1999, and followed Fran Fine (Fran Drescher), a Jewish fashionista from Flushing, who becomes the nanny of three children from an Anglo-American upper-class family in New York City. Sylvia's goal was to help her daughter find a husband. Although the show aired more than 30 years ago, she is best known for her role in The Nanny.

    After the show ended, Taylor guest-starred in many sitcoms, including How I Met Your Mother, Disney Channel's Shake It Up, Nickelodeon's Victorious and Happily Divorced. She also worked in voice acting and starred in many movies like Opposite Day, Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor and The Do-Over with Adam Sandler.

    Back in August, Drescher reunited with her The Nanny co-stars Taylor and Nicholle Tom to watch Taylor's show, Dying Is No Excuse!, in Massachusetts, which is about the relationship between Taylor and Bulognia, who passed away in 2017.

    The two actresses are still very close. On Thursday afternoon, the Marty Supreme actress greeted her sitcom mother on Instagram, writing, "Happy Birthday Renee. You are one in a mil babe. I love you! You inspired me, you brilliant woman you! 93 and still kickin’ [explicit]! You go Gurl ???."

    Even at 93-years-old, Taylor is still very active in theater. She is currently performing her one-woman show,My Life on a Diet, at the Plaza Theater in Palm Springs.
