ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The last day of winter was quiet and seasonably mild, but rain arrives for the first day of spring on Friday. Our first in a series of clippers will bring a period of rain, starting Friday morning and tapering into the early afternoon hours. Most areas will see about a quarter of an inch of rain as this passes by, along with an increasing breeze out of the west, then northwest. Chillier air drawn back in behind the low will drop our temperatures from the 40s back into the 30s by evening.
The weekend starts off dry with a good deal of clouds and some limited sun on Saturday. Temperatures will be seasonable in the mid 40s. If you have outdoor plans this weekend, Saturday is the day to do it. Our next wave of low pressure moves arrives on Sunday, with another batch of rain developing. Temperatures will be a little tricky, with highs near Lake Ontario in the 30s and 40s, and temperatures south of the Thruway possibly pushing into the 50s, with 60s possible in the Southern Tier. But most of the immediate Rochester areas will likely hold in the 40s. Another quarter to half inch of rain is possible on Sunday, before changing over to some wet snow showers by late evening and into the overnight.
Another punch of chillier air will arrive early next week, with highs in the 30s both Monday and Tuesday, with some snow showers around on Monday. We’re tracking another possible clipper by later Wednesday or Thursday of next week, which should bring yet another round of rain, followed by another round of chillier air.
