An upcoming Labubu movie is set at Sony Pictures, magazines including Variety report, with Paul King (Paddington) attached to direct and co-write.
And all the Dear Evan Hansen die-hards will be pleased to know that award-winning playwright Steven Levenson is enlisted as the other co-writer.
The project, which is still in early development, will be a live‑action and CGI hybrid end result, Variety also noted on Wednesday, March 19. Plot details have not yet been revealed.
The developments were announced during Pop Mart’s “The Monsters” global exhibition tour to celebrate their 10th anniversary. A decade ago, Lung launched the whimsical world of Labubu as a picture book series titled The Monsters Trilogy. Then came the toys, and the rest is history.
Labubu dolls are known for their cuddly but fierce appearance that features sharp teeth, furry bodies and pointy ears. In addition to Labubu, who is the primary character in the toy line, other characters include Zimomo, Mokoko and Tycoco, The Hollywood Reporter notes.
