You just knew that the first Maxx Crosby podcast episode after the trade between the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders fell through would be a banger.
So, for me, it comes as no surprise that it absolutely delivered.
Some highlights on what Crosby called “probably one of the most unique, crazy, wild, up-and-down rollercoasters” he has ever been a part of in his latest podcast episode:
On what it’s like to live in that moment: “You hear the rumors. You hear everything going on. You have this thought of ‘maybe I’m getting traded.’ And then it happens, and you’re like, ‘holy sh—, this is real.’ You can’t really prepare yourself for that. I’ve been with the Raiders my whole career. I love being a Raider, everyone knows that.” How the vibes felt off when meeting with Ravens Head Coach Jesse Minter: “I’m so excited, fired up. This is a new opportunity. You could just tell the energy was off. I’m not thinking anything of it. Maybe he’s just different. I don’t know him. I go into the room, they sit me down on the couch, and go, ‘I don’t know how to say this. One of our doctors has concerns with the results with your knee. Some of them are concerned about the future. We really want you. We’re just gonna have to get more and more opinions.” Hearing this opened made me do a head-turn: “Everyone’s got their own conspiracy theory. No one will ever admit what the real truth is. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter. I am where I’m supposed to be.” Raider for life? We’ll see: “I’m here. I’m meant to be a Raider. “I’m in this sh— for life until that changes, which I don’t foresee. But you never know in this damn league.” Mandatory Credit: Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn ImagesOn the one hand, I’m not sure the Maxx Crosby saga is over. I’ve been following the NFL for too long to think that any story arc is ever completely done. Even Crosby admits that much on the pod. But on the other hand, if it is over, then I am glad that it finished in a way that allowed Crosby to realize that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. That is a lesson that a lot of professional athletes (and regular degular folks) don’t ever get around to learning.

The Chicago Bears were among the teams to inquire with the Raiders about a Maxx Crosby trade. Bears General Manager Ryan Poles confirmed the team’s interest while meeting with the media at Halas Hall last week. And while the team still has a need to fill at the position Crosby plays, it does not sound like a trade is in the cards as of this time. Not landing an impact player like Crosby might sting right now, but it could ultimately be a good thing.
