Weeks into the search for Nancy Guthrie, a retired FBI agent believes investigators may be quietly closing in on an important lead. Speaking to Megyn Kelly, former agent Maureen O'Connell said authorities could already have a strong idea of what happened—even if they haven't shared this information with the public.
While discussing Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos' recent comments about Guthrie, 84, being "targeted" (though he cautions that he's not "100% sure" of that), O'Connell agreed with Kelly that if Nanos' statement is true, it's a "huge development."
"Those investigators know so much more than we do," O'Connell told Kelly. "And they're on to something. They're on to something big… they just may be having a hard time proving it. But if you look at the Kouri Richins case, that took, what? Over a year and several months before she got arrested...before they were able to really build a case."

"They could have another legitimate ransom note for all we know. And, if it went straight to the FBI, we wouldn't know about it," she added.
Now six weeks into the investigation, authorities have not publicly identified a person of interest. Despite several rumors circulating online, authorities have not publicly identified a person of interest in the case. Guthrie has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1.
