Nahshon Wright’s extraordinary 2025 season did not result in him getting a big-money, multi-year deal in free agency. But his play did merit a significant chunk of change. And that isn’t an insignificant development for the 27-year-old cornerback.
The NFL released a list of the top-25 players based on performance-based pay from the 2025 season. And while there are some intriguing names on the list, none stand out more than Nahshon Wright. The former Chicago Bears cornerback made the most performance-based pay in 2025, with a distribution number checking in at $1,441,397. Not bad for a player who was waived by the Minnesota Vikings in early April 2025 and signed with the Bears one day later.
Here is the rest of the top-25:

The Bears’ signing of Nahshon Wright was an afterthought last April. Do you remember where you were when that signing went down? Because I sure as heck don’t. So it’s not as if you are alone if that particular transaction didn’t register. But what matters more than anything is what Wright did with the opportunity, which is what ultimately got him this performance-based pay bump.
ICYMI: Nahshon Wright Signed With the Jets in Free Agency
Wright played in all 17 of the Bears’ regular-season games and in both of the team’s postseason contests. He played on 97 percent of the defensive snaps and was all over the stat sheet. Nahshon Wright set new career highs in interceptions (5), passes defended (11), forced fumbles (2), fumble recoveries (3), total tackles (80), and tackles-for-loss (3). His 65.1 overall grade from Pro Football Focus put him at 48th of 114 qualifying cornerbacks. Placing in the top half of PFF’s grades is a good place to be.
Nahshon Wright’s performance earned him a Pro Bowl spot. And it made for a fun story to follow in 2025. I’m not sure anyone loves a come-up story more than I do. No, it didn’t result in him getting a huge deal in free agency. As someone who likes to see underdogs get paid, it was a bummer to see Wright’s market not develop in a way that NFL pundits thought it would. However, the New York Jets signed him to a deal that pays him more than what he snagged last offseason. Perhaps that slight will push him toward making more performance-based pay in 2026.
