Classic Doctor Who screening confirmed for newly found episodes with special guests and more

Following the recovery of two classic episodes of Doctor Who, which had long been missing, further details have been confirmed about an upcoming screening.

The screening, hosted by Film is Fabulous!, will take place at Riverside Studios on Saturday 4 April, with the first three instalments of 12-part story, The Daleks' Master Plan, being shown.

This includes the two recently recovered episodes, The Nightmare Begins and Devil’s Planet, as well as the middle chapter of the three, Day of Armageddon.

The screening will also include introductions and special guest panels, with the exact list of guests yet to be confirmed.

Information about the screening, including how to purchase tickets, can be found on Riverside Studios' website.

For those who can't attend the screening, they will still get a chance to see the episodes soon, as Film is Fabulous! has collaborated with BBC Archives to ensure that the original 16mm telerecordings are restored, and will be available in the best possible condition on BBC iPlayer soon.

After the episodes were recovered, Sue Malden, who was the BBC's first archive selector, and has been working on the recovery of missing Doctor Who episodes and other vintage television for decades, spoke exclusively with Radio Times.

Malden, who now works with Film is Fabulous!, said: "Someone from Film is Fabulous! rang me yesterday to say what a fabulous time it was. It was so emotional.

"Apparently, Peter [Purves] was quite overwhelmed. He must have been absolutely stunned, suddenly to find why he'd been lured there. But the memories it must have brought back for him would have been fantastic."

Film is Fabulous! is a charitable trust run by film collectors, cinema lovers and vintage television enthusiasts which is dedicated to preserving vulnerable film collections across the UK, helping collectors, and educating about film as a medium.

Doctor Who will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Christmas.
